On Romance and Cigarettes

Dear Ms. Winslet,

I’ve never done this before but your performance on Romance and Cigarettes, a small film I caught in a Cambridge cinema recently, was so extremely moving that I felt an obligation as audience to write (if this were a play, I would have clapped and been done with it but movies are a different animal). That underwater scene, as your character’s heart was breaking, was amazing. Well done – that’s really all I wanted to say. Well done.
